Prologue

We first see Jet looking for treasure in some ruins. He notices there are people from a nearby village looking for a boy who is in the ruins. They ask Jet if he will go find the boy, but Jet declines because the amount of gella they offered was so low.

Jet goes off to search for his treasure, and eventually finds Pike, the person everyone is looking for. Pike tells Jet that the treasure is gone, but he's looking for his own treasure. After killing a monster that attacked, Jet sees Pike's treasure and compains that "it's all junk." Pike explains that they're all toys and memories from his childhood and since he's going away from home he wants to take his memories with him so he doesn't forget who he is now.

Jet comments that he doesn't have any memories that he wants to hang onto, and that he doesn't understand why they're so important. With the ruins about to collapse, Jet and Pike head out. On the way Pike mentions that the train he's leaving on will be transporting a great treasure. Jet asks Pike to tell him about the treasure on the train. Jet snuck on and waited for a chance to steal the treasure.

When Jet broke into the car with the treasure, he ran into four other Drifters who were there for their own reasons. Virginia, a novice Drifter, Gallows, a Baskar who ran away from home, and Clive, a sniper who was hired to guard the treasure. Their confrontation is cut short when they had to fight another group of Drifters led by a man named Janus Cascade, who were also after the treasure. The morning after the fight, the group headed for Baskar.
